Microsoft 365 Business Standard vs Business Premium

Microsoft 365 Business Standard and Business Premium both include the core productivity applications many businesses need, but Business Premium adds a significant set of security and device-management capabilities.

Business Standard

Business Standard is primarily a productivity and collaboration licence. It is suitable when a business needs desktop Office apps, Exchange Online email, Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive but manages security and devices through other systems.

Business Premium

Business Premium adds capabilities such as Microsoft Intune and Entra ID security features that can materially improve device management, access control and security when configured correctly.

The important question is not only licence price

A cheaper licence can become more expensive if the business separately purchases tools that duplicate capabilities already available in Business Premium. Conversely, Business Premium is not automatically the right licence for every user.

What MWITS reviews

We look at user roles, devices, remote work, MFA, conditional access, endpoint management, security requirements and any existing third-party tooling before recommending a licence mix.
